50 AIRTEL MOBILE MONEY BRANCHES OPENED

By BUUMBA CHIMBULU

IN an effort to deliver digital financial services across the country, 50 additional Airtel mobile money branches have been opened in five provinces of the country.

The additional branches have been opened on the Copperbelt, Central, Lusaka, Northern, and Southern provinces, bringing digital financial services closer to the communities and join a network of over 700 Airtel Money branches spread across Zambia.

The Airtel Money branches are part of Airtel Zambia’s drive to deliver financial inclusion across the country by bringing mobile money services closer to local communities.

Airtel Zambia Sales and Distribution Director, Andrew Chuma, said the launch of the new branches was aimed to improve and enhance the provision of mobile money services.

Mr Chuma said these branches would support businesses in digitising transactions without having to spend money on transportation and drive the progress towards a cashless economy.

He stressed that expanding Airtel Money services to remote areas of Zambia provided an opportunity to grow the communities and accelerate their economic development and financial inclusion

“The branches will also drive economic progress among local communities and support other surrounding businesses with mobile money services that include funds transfer, easy availability of Airtel SIM cards and recharge.

“The provision of such services will also provide local micro-entrepreneurs with the opportunity to engage in Airtel Money and mobile business, helping to improve their incomes and contribute to national development,” Mr Chuma said in statement.

He said over 90 percent of the cost of constructing and opening the branches was covered by the company including transportation and installation, thereby enabling small and micro business owners to partner with Airtel and alleviate the communities’ needs to access these services.

Mr Chuma said the move would also support the greater ambition of delivering financial inclusion to under-banked communities.

“We pride ourselves in being partners with Government as per the 7th National Development Plan that looks to reducing poverty by creating employment opportunities to raise household incomes,” he said.
