MTN Super League defending champions Nkana’s survival hopes received a major boost following a 4-1 win over Napsa Stars in a rescheduled fixture played yesterday at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.
On song striker Jimmy Mukeya gave Napsa false hope in the 14th minute when he curled in a goal to open the floodgates of goals at the stadium.
However, Nkana’s Duke Abuya levelled matters in the 37th minute in what appeared to be an offside but assistant referee Thomas Kaela allowed the goal to count much to the protest of Napsa players who swarmed referee Milton Mweemba.
The match went to the break at 1-1 but Nkana came back strong to dominate the second stanza as Diamond Chikwekwe was making the runs on the right side.
Napsa’s wingbacks Amos Simwanza Aaron Kabwe had a tough time containing the Nkana wingers with Chikwekwe having a field day.
Nkana’s dominance was rewarded in the 47th minute when Chikwekwe put the home team ahead.
Napsa coach Mohammed Fathi made some changes bringing on Doisy Soko for Bornwell Mwape.
However, Nkana had other ideas as they added another goal through Gilroy Chimwemwe in the 59th minute before Alex Ngonga put made it worse for the visitors with an 82nd minute goal to boost their survival chances in the Super League at the expense of their opponents.
Meanwhile in the early kick off of the double header Lusaka Dynamos moved back into the top-four after beating Kitwe United 1-0 thanks to Collins Sikombe’s goal.
At Independence Stadium in Choma, Green Eagles thrashed Indeni 3-0 to move into 10th on the league table with 30 points.
A brace from Anos Tembo and a lone goal from Amity Shamenda redeemed Eagle’s hope of finishing in the top-four and qualifying for the CAF club championships.
