COURT ACQUITS 5 PF MEMBERS

FIVE Patriotic Front (PF) members who were charged with one count of damaging a motor vehicle belonging to Mr Innocent Kalimanshi, another member.

Before Lusaka Magistrate Faides Hamaundu were Bright Musonda, 38, a business executive, Keithward Musonda, 45, Kelvin Chisanga, a youth treasurer, Gift Lupiya, 34, a politician, and Nectir Sinyangwe, also a 34-year-old youth chairperson.

Ms. Hamaundu acquitted the five yesterday after the complainant, Mr Kalimanshi applied to the court to withdraw the case.  Pàrticulars of offence were that on May 1, 2021 in Lusaka, the five damaged Mr Kalimanshi’s unregistered Ford Ranger worth K700, 000.

Shortly before trial started in the matter yesterday, Mr Kalimanshi applied to Ms. Hamaundu for withdrawal of the case.

He said he had already forgiven the accused persons and wanted to withdraw the case. In an interview after court proceedings, Mr Kalimanshi said he decided to forgive his assailants because they were one family. 

He said a leader’s job is to keep and care for people by ensuring everyone advocates peace.  Mr Kalimanshi said he has not been compensated for his damaged vehicle but that more blessings are still coming his way. 

Meanwhile, Mr Kalimanshi’s friend, Mr Nathan Phiri welcomed the manner in which the case has been handled.
