164 OPPOSITION CADRES DEFECT TO PF

ABOUT 164 people from two opposition political parties in North-western province have defected to the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).

The majority of the defectors came from the United Party for National Development (UPND) while a few were from the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

North-western province PF chairman, Jackson Kungo welcomed the defectors at the ruling party offices in Solwezi yesterday.

“Today we are receiving 160 from UPND, mixed youth and women, we are also receiving four from MDC,” Mr. Kungo stated.

He said the increasing number of defectors from the opposition political parties showed how much the people of North-western province were willing to vote for the PF in the August 12 general elections.

“Don’t waste your votes to vote for the opposition, you have been voting for the opposition and the opposition have brought nothing in your constituencies,” he said.

Mr Kungo urged the new PF members to work hard and recruit more people to the party.

At the same occasion, Solwezi Central parliamentary candidate, Milner Katolo, said the defectors had made the right decision to leave their parties.

Mr Katolo urged the people in the province to work with the government of the day in order to get a full development package.

Solwezi mayoral candidate, Tukiya Lewila, said real change would only be realized if people voted for all the candidates standing on the PF ticket.-
