HEADMAN SHOT DEAD

A village headman in Kalumbila district has been shot dead while the wife is battling for her life in Lumwana District Hospital.

Two men, using a muzzle loader, opened fire on the couple and fled.

According to North-western province Commissioner of police, Joe Njase,  the incident happened on Friday around 22:00 hours.

He identified the the deceased as Royd Katontoka, who was aged 67 of Kinemba village.

He said the incident was reported by Steven Mukwemba the son of the shooting victims.

“Police rushed to the scene and discovered that the deceased sustained two deep wounds on the stomach and on the back while the wife namely Mary Katontoka aged 52 sustained four deep wounds on the left leg,” Mr Njase said.

Mr Njase said that the two were rushed to Kankozhi clinic where the headman was pronounced dead while the wife was rushed to Lumwana district hospital for treatment.

He said investigations have been instituted.

Meanwhile, one person has died in a fatal road accident in along the Kalumbila Mwinilunga road.

Mr Njase said Gloria Mwalo aged 27 the wife to PF Kimale ward candidate Edward Mwalo was driving a Toyota Hilux  belonging to Puma Energy.

She lost control and went off the road and overturned several times.

“Due to the impact, the driver sustained fatal injuries and the motor vehicle was extensively damaged,” Mr Njase sais.

He said the body has since been deposited in Lumwana district hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
