COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS AT ENTRY POINTS TIGHTENED

ALL travellers entering Zambian from high risk Covid-19 countries would be given a 14-day mandatory quarantine in selected isolation hotels and lodges.

Government through the Ministry of Health has made it mandatory to quarantine returning residents and foreigners coming from high risk countries.

A letter signed by Lusaka Province health director Dr Consity Mwale and states that to curb importation of Covid-19, while efforts are also being made to stop community transmission, Government through the Ministry of Health has designated facilities where 14-day mandatory quarantine is to be observed at own cost.

Dr Mwale stated that those who will be quarantined are travellers coming from countries that have been identified as high risk to Covid-19.

He said Government through the multisectoral task force has observed a worrying shift in the local picture for Covid-19 cases and those requiring hospital admission to health facilities increasing steadily over the past week.

“The following are the current facilities where travellers can lodge for quarantine purpose, Fallsway Apartment, Tecla Lodge, Radisson Blu.

“Others are Wesu Lodge, Maamba Collieries guest house and Fleur de Lys.  The district health directors will work closely with the designated quarantine facilities to ensure strict compliance to Covid-19 public health measures,” the letter reads.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Chalwe Lombe said travellers who receive a negative Covid-19 result following testing at the point of entry will be exempt from the 14-day mandatory quarantine.
