By MICHAEL MIYOBA
KENYAN international striker Jesse Jackson Were became Zesco United’s all-time top scorer after scoring his 100th goal for the Ndola-based side which demolished relegation-bound Kitwe United 4-0 in yesterday’s rescheduled MTN Super League fixture at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Were, who joined Zesco in 2016 from Kenyan outfit Tusker FC scored a ha ttrick to inspire the hosts to their 19th league win of the season.

Were put Zesco United ahead just eight minutes after kick off with a beautiful tap in.

Kamusoko came close to doubling Zesco’s lead in the 16th minute with a sublime shot which was saved by Kitwe United shot stopper, Haverson Chinganbu.

Were who kept the Kitwe United defenders under pressure and almost scored his second for Zesco in the 24th minute but agonisingly saw his header going wide.

The Kenyan was finally able to double Zesco’s advantage on the half hour mark after benefitting from Winston Kalengo’s assist.

The win over Kitwe United helped Zesco to redeem themselves from a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Prison Leopards and reclaim their eight-point lead at the summit of the Super League table where they sit on 62 points.

The Ndola giants who will face relegation bound Napsa Stars are now two points from being declared champions of the 2010/2021 MTN Super League.
