KANYAMA WARNS AGAINST ABUSE OF PARTY CAMPAIGN RESOURCES

By OLIVER SAMBOKO

SOME PF Parliamentary candidates in Southern Province have been accused of using campaign funds provided by the party to advance their personal businesses instead of channeling the resources towards campaigns for the crucial August 12 polls.

Siavonga District PF Mobilization committee chairperson Lovemore Kanyama said the party in the region is disturbed to learn that campaign resources are now being abused by some candidates at a time when the party is campaigning to remain in power.

“It’s from this background that I call upon the Patriotic Front security wings to intensify their operations in monitoring the conduct and usage of party resources as campaign resources are not meant for one’s advancement of personal businesses,” he said.

Mr Kanyama callled on the general membership of the  party in the province to be alert and ensure those abusing resources for their own benefit are exposed

“We have information that some candidates in the region intend to use campaign resources in advancement of their education and other businesses, but as a party we will not allow that to happen,” he said.

Mr Kanyama said all mobilization committees in the region are on high alert and monitoring the conduct of candidates to ensure that those thinking of diverting party resources are exposed.

Mr Kanyama also encouraged ruling party members in Southern province not to be scared by the UPND as the region was no longer the opposition stronghold. “The issue of Southern province being an opposition party stronghold shouldn’t scare us, but instead we must intensify door to door campaigns to win more members ahead of the election,” he said.
