COPS LAUNCH MANHUNT FOR UPND CADRES FOR ARSON ACT

SUSPECTED UPND cadres on Thursday allegedly set on fire PF chitenge materials in Chililabombwe and police have since launched a manhunt  for the culprits

Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Elias Chushi said the PF officials were having a meeting when they received a message from a member of the public that suspected UPND cadres were burning PF chitenge materials

“Yes,, I can confirm that we had a report of malicious damage in Chililabombwe where some suspected UPND cadres allegedly burnt PF chitenge materials and we are pursuing the matter.  We have launched a  manhunt, ” Mr Chushi said

PF  Chililabombwe  constituency  secretary Florence Kaunda also confirmed the incident.

Ms Kaunda said in an interview yesterday that that the party officials were having a meeting before they received a call from a concerned member of the public who tipped them off about UPND cadres allegedly burning  their chitenge material.

She said she rushed to the scene together with other party officials and found UPND  cadres burning their materials.  “After  they saw us they run away  in their  branded vehicle,” she said.

Ms Kaunda said the chitenge materials that were  burnt were put on the freedom statue as a campaign material. And Mr Chushi said the malicious damage to property happened around 15:00hours at independence statute.

He said police officers have intensified investigations to arrest the suspects.
