UPND president Hakainde Hichilema must tame his supporters before they set the country on fire, Zambia Jubilee Coalition (ZJC) Secretary General Kwaela Mwanza has said.
UPND cadres in Nakonde on Wednesday stormed the local police station, injured two officers and damaged a parked vehicle in an attempt to have two of their colleagues who were arrested for assault released by force.
Mr Mwanza said ZJC was concerned with Mr Hichilema’s failure to denounce violence being perpetrated by his supporters.
He said it was saddening lawlessness by the UPND has reached alarming levels.
Mr Mwanza said the violent behaviour by the UPND supporters could set the country on fire.
“What is more dissapointing and frustrating is the failure by Mr Hichilema and the UPND leadership to con demn violence perpetrated by their supporters,”Mr Mwanza said.
Mr Mwanza said it was disappointing that instead of political parties selling their manifestos they have resorted to violence.
He appealed to police to ensure that all perpetrators of violence are brought to book to safe guard people’s lives and property.
