COVID-19: GOVT WARNS OF TOUGH TIMES AHEAD

GOVERNMENT has warned that the Covid-19 pandemic is yet to reach the peak of this wave in the coming weeks as the virus spreads faster in cold dry air.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Dr Kennedy Malama whas however advised the public to do everything in their power to stem its spread.

“Despite the tough times ahead, given that we are yet to reach the peak of this wave, we must ask ourselves how we can quickly shorten the time to the peak. The answer lies in empowering our people to make positive decisions,” Dr Malama said.

Speaking when he updated the nation on the Covid-19 situation yesterday, Dr Malama predicted that the worst was yet to come and people should take preventive measures seriously.

Dr Malama expressed confident that the numbers would be dropping in the next month or so and the situation would improve.

Dr Malama however said “We will overcome this situation, just as we have done for the previous two waves. Let us all work together to bring sanity back to our country.”

Meanwhile, Dr Malama announced that 33 new deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.

He also announced that 198 patients were admitted within the last 24 hours and that among those under admission, 544 were on oxygen therapy and 124 were in critical condition.

“In the last 24 hours Zambia reports 3, 394 ‘new’ Covid-19 cases out of 16, 002 tests, representing a positivity of 21.2 percent,” he said.

Dr Malama said the past four weeks have been so difficult for Zambia as the Covid-19 situation has been worsening.
