THE corporate world should contribute to the Kenneth Kaunda Foundation as a way of honouring the legacy of a man who took bold investment decisions such as building the longest crude oil pipeline in Africa in 1968.
The private sector should contribute to the Kenneth Kaunda Foundation as a way of honouring the legacy of the departed hero, says chairperson for the Rural Electrification Board, Alexander Chikwanda.
Mr Chikwanda said that Zambia could learn from colleagues in South Africa how it had sustained the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
He said this upon signing book of condolences at the KK residence in State Lodge.
“I have noted messages of condolences from all over the world and corporate world. This is commendable. However, I would like to call upon the corporate world to consider contributing to the Kenneth Kaunda Foundation as one way of honouring His Excellency Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda.
“He held the work of the foundation dear to his heart. We need to learn from SA how they have sustained the Nelson Mandela Foundation,” he said.
He stressed that the late Dr Kaunda among other investment decisions, built the longest crude oil pipeline in Africa in 1968 travelling a very challenging topography from Dar es Salaam to Ndola for 1, 710 kilometres.
Mr Chikwanda recalled that Dr Kaunda also built Indeni Petroleum refinery as the only inland petroleum refinery in the SADC region outside a country without a coast line which was currently still operational.
Meanwhile, Mr Chikwanda proposed that Government sets aside a day to be called Kaunda day as a day of celebrating his legacy.
