Former UPND vice president for politics, Canisius Banda has charged that the stubbornness being exhibited by UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema is reopening healed wounds in Zambia and his behaviour is devoid of wisdom,

And Dr Banda reiterated that the dialogue the Zambian people were seeking would not take place for as long as the UPND did not officially note that Zambia had a republican president.

He however maintained that dialogue was important as it was through such media of communication that conflict was resolved, humans united and progress was attained.

Dr Banda charged that what further confuses the matter was the attitude of the UPND, whom he said their stunning stubbornness was devoid of wisdom.

Dr Banda was reacting to Mr Hichilema’s recent statement that the proposed dialogue with President Edgar Lungu would not compel him to accept the results of the 2016 general elections and that Zambia now had a sitting President.

He said that there could not be reconciliation where there was stubbornness as the two did not go together.

Dr Banda pointed out that seeking a meeting with a person whom you deem to be illegitimate was to endorse illegitimacy.

“The dialogue between the UPND and President Lungu is welcome. However, what is not clear about this dialogue is the purported pursuit of reconciliation. What reconciliation this is, is only known to those pursuing it.

“What the UPND cannot see, for some elusive reason, is that the dialogue they want, and which the people of Zambia are encouraging, will NOT take place for as long they do not officially note that Zambia has a republican president,” he said.
