OBSERVE COVID-19 GUIDELINES, POLITICIANS TOLD

By SANFROSSA MANYINDA

THE Women Community Response Project has called on political parties to abide by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) directive concerning political campaigns.

Project Executive Director, Besa Katongo, said in Kitwe this would help protect the lives of Zambians against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ms Katongo said that politicians were championing their agenda of forming government instead of protecting the lives of Zambians first.

She said members of the public would be put at risk should such a mentality continue as the Covid-19 cases were escalating to alarming levels on a daily basis.

“We are afraid we will lose slot of innocent lives should politicians continue going against the directive by ECZ and hold huge gatherings in order to sell their party manifestos.

“Members of the public have already decided which political party they intend to usher into office hence politicians need to contribute by safeguarding the lives of the people from Covid 19 by following the set directive by ECZ,” she said.

Ms Katongo therefore advised political parties to follow the directive in order to protect the lives of the majority Zambians that were eligible to vote in the August 12 general elections.
