4 FAMILY MEMBERS BURNT TO DEATH

FOUR members of the same family have died while a motor vehicle has been burnt to ashes when a fire swept through a house in Chikola Loop area of Chingola in the early hours of yesterday.

Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Elias Chushi, confirmed the incident and identified the victims as Hiness Chimpimpa, aged 43, Eliya Chimpima, Nakanyika Chimwemwe and another one only identified as Prisca.

Mr Chushi said Ms Emelda Ng;ambi reported the incident, which happened between 05:00 hours and 0540 hours at an unmarked house number in Chikola Loop Area, Chingola.

“I can confirm that four people have died while a while a motor vehicle whose details are not known has also been burnt to ashes when a fire swept through a house in Chikola Loop area of Chingola in the early hours of yesterday

“The Fire Brigade went to the scene and access to the house was gained by breaking the grill door and four bodies were found lying in the same room. A motor vehicle whose details are not known was also burnt to ashes,” Mr Chushi said.

Mr Chushi said inside the house, there was a heap of saw dust, building materials, timber and PVC ceiling material which were also burnt.

 He said the cause of the fire was not yet known but investigations have revealed that the fire could have started from inside the house

“Neighbours were interviewed and stated that they heard people shouting for help and when they rushed to the scene, they found the house on fire and failed to break through.

“However, the cause of the fire was not yet known but preliminary investigations reveal that the fire could have started from inside. The charred bodies have since been ferried to the Chingola Hospital Mortuary,” he said.
