TRADE Kings Group has continued donating medical oxygen worth K6 million per month to health facilities and Covid-19 centers countrywide.
Group Public Relations and Corporate Affairs Manager Bridget Kambobe said that through the Ministry of Health several health facilities have been beneficiaries of the free medical oxygen.
Ms. Kambobe disclosed that some of the health facilities that have benefited include Maina Soko Military Hospital, Chipata General Hospital, Monze Mission Hospital, Kafue District Hospital, Choma Hospital, Mazabuka General Hospital, Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital and University Teaching Hospital.
She explained that the Group, through its Foundation – has further pledged its continued support of supply of free medical oxygen to the health facilities countrywide until the end of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This landmark announcement comes as the need for medical oxygen has intensified countrywide as the infection rate continues to multiply and lives continue being lost due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Universal Mining and Chemicals Ltd, a member of the Trade Kings Group and commonly referred to as Kafue Steel Plant, has already been donating free medical oxygen to health facilities since the Covid-19 pandemic started in 2020.
“But with the urgent need for medical oxygen all over the country, UMCIL has further increased its oxygen production and is currently supplying approximately 15,000 cylinders of oxygen monthly at no cost to health facilities countrywide and has pledged to continue doing so until the end of the pandemic,” Ms. Kambobe said.
She also said that Universal Mining has scaled down its business operations in a bid to divert more medical oxygen to health facilities and the general public free of charge adding that this is to facilitate the increased production of medical oxygen.
“As Trade Kings Foundation, our commitment is to contribute to saving as many lives as possible by responding to the high demand for medical oxygen as the Covid-19 infections and deaths continue to rise.
“As oxygen therapy is highly required in Covid-19 patients, Universal Mining has been supplying the medical oxygen at no cost to increase the supply to all facilities and enhance lifesaving medical care.
We are aware of the pressure that the hospitals and clinics in the communities are under and consequently on the referral hospitals.” This statement comes at the foot of the earlier donation of oxygen concentrators to the 8 health facilities, which include general hospitals and clinics in Lusaka, “ she said.
