CEMENT OVER-PRICING PROBE ACTIVE – CCPC

By KETRA KALUNGA

INVESTIGATIONS into over-pricing of various products by a number of economic sectors are on-going, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) are ongoing.

CCPC Public relations officer, Rainford Mutabi, said the commission has continued to monitor all sectors of the economy for any anti-competitive conduct on the Zambia market.

Mr Mutabi said in an interview that the CCPC would update the nation on the findings once the investigations were concluded.

“CCPC continues to monitor all sectors of the economy for any anti-competitive conduct and will update the general public at an appropriate time upon conclusion of its investigations,” he said.

Mr. Mutabi was commenting on anti-competitive prices of various products among them meat and dairy products on the market by a number of economic sectors.

He however pointed out that not all price increments of various products were a result of anti-competitive conduct.

Mr. Mutabi said some increments had been necessitated by inflationary pressures along the production process.
