SEAL POROUS DRC BORDER IN MWINILUNGA, PLEADS CHIEF

Chief Kanyama of Mwinilunga has called for increased security patrols along the Zambia-Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) border in his chiefdom.

Chief Kanyama said the border was very porous hence many foreigners illegally entered Zambia through his chiefdom.

He said there were a number of undesignated routes through which people from the neighbouring DRC entered Zambia.

Chief Kanyama was speaking when North-Western Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Emmanuel Chihili, paid a courtesy call on him at his palace today.

“Sometimes we live in fear because some criminal minded individuals can enter the country through these routes,” he said.

The traditional leader said it was important that the security checks were intensified especially that the country was going into an election.

Chief Kanyama also called on the Road Development Agency (RDA) to expedite the process of installing a baily bridge across Muzhila river.

In response, Mr Chihili promised to engage relevant authorities over the issues which the chief raised.

Meanwhile, Chief Kanyama pledged to support President Edgar Lungu in the August 12, 2021 polls.

The traditional leader said President Lungu was a listening and humble leader whose government has scored many achievements in his chiefdom.

“President Lungu has always given me an ear whenever I have something to request him,” chief Kanyama said.

He said his principle was always to work with the government of the day as it makes it easy for him to lobby for development.
