Opposition can’t fool Zambians – Mpombo

A UPND price campaign will not yield any tangible results because Zambians cannot be fooled by cheap propaganda, veteran politician George Mpombo has said.
Dr Mpombo said there was enough political and economic awareness among Zambians today and that everyone was able to understand what was happening to commodity prices globally.
“Campaigning along those lines is using deceptive tools of analysis and being simplistic because all Zambians know that the pandemic has caused a general world economic slow growth,” he said.
He said that the UPND had decided to take a simplistic approach to a very complex issue and were trying to exploit the world economic problem to win the hearts of Zambians.
Dr Mpombo said Covid-19 has had very adverse effects on world economies and some countries in the region like South Africa resorted to xenophobic action against fellow blacks who went to work in their country in 2020 because of economic hardships.
“It is political nonsense to campaign along those parameters,” he added.
And Zambian DNA spokesperson, Spuki Mulemwa called on Zambians to scrutinize carefully those vying for the highest office in the land as some of them were making empty promises to fix the economy when they had lamentably failed to explain the role they played in the privatization of State enterprises.
Mr Mulemwa said it was not a secret that their involvement in the privatization of State enterprises was scandalous as it resulted in thousands of job losses, whose terminal benefits had not been paid to date, and some of the retrenchees have since died without getting what they worked for.
