THE Rural Electrification Programme (REA) which was introduced in Kalomo in 2018 has promoted entrepreneurship among the residents, Chief Chikanta has observed.
Chief Chikanta said that from the time his chiefdom was connected to the national grid, a number of entrepreneurship activities had been thriving.
He told the Daily Nation that the initiative had reduced poverty levels in the chiefdom due to the increase in household income and expenditure.
The traditional leader said his subjects had been provided with new opportunities to engage in various types of businesses.
He added that his subjects were now able to run businesses that use electronic equipment easily.
Chief Chikanta said that with the REA programme, the use of electronic equipment in clinics and schools has become easier for health workers, teachers and pupils around the chiefdom.
He commended government for the establishment of the REA which he said has proved to be vital to rural communities in the country.
