LUNGU URGES ZAMBIANS TO SUSTAIN CHRISTIAN DECLARATION

By ROGERS KALERO

ZAMBIA must honour its covenant with God by protecting and maintaining its declaration as a Christian nation so that the nation can continue to get guidance from God, President Edgar Lungu has said.

President Lungu has also said he was grateful that the church has always been on the side of Government despite the challenges the country was facing.

Mr Lungu was speaking in a message delivered for him by former Minister of Religious Affairs Godfridah Sumaili when she met clergymen from pentecostal churches of the 10 districts on the Copperbelt at New Beginnings Church in Kitwe.

“As Republican President, I am so grateful for the support my Government received from the church and I am urging them to continue praying for peace in the country as we approach the August 12 elections.

In a sermon delivered later, Bishop Billie Mfula cautioned Zambians not to depart from the shadow of God by slipping away from the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation

And speaking earlier, Reverend Sumaili explained that the Covid-19 relief funds had delayed because Government wanted to ensure accountability and transparency.
