PRESIDENT LUNGU HAS SCORED IN AGRICULTURE – CHIEF KABINGA

Chief Kabinga of the Bisa speaking people of Kanchibiya has described the agriculture sector as a big success story under President Edgar Lungu.

He said President Lungu has exhibited sound leadership in the area of agriculture as evidenced by the continued bumper harvests the country has continued to record.

He said the timely delivery of inputs is unprecedented and a testimony of good policies under the PF government. Chief Kabinga was speaking when Neria’s Investments Limited General Manager Mr Martin Chaikatisha paid a courtesy call on him at his farm to appreciate his impact in contributing to Zambia’s food security through his mechanized farming system and to also update him on the input distribution exercise.

He said ever since he ventured into farming, he has made tremendous progress with regards to crop yields due to the good agriculture environment.

“We thank the government for bridging the gap. Farming inputs are not cheap and it is good that government has continued to subsidise for the sake of helping farmers across the country,” he said.

He also encouraged farmers who are on the programme not to abuse it, but to ensure they graduate from subsistence to commercial farmers in order for them to be self sustainable.

Meanwhile, Mr Chaikatisha has commended Chief Kabinga for embarking on modernized farming methods. Mr Chaikatisha said traditional leaders are key players in the promotion of national food security and should be in the forefront to promote agricultural development.

“This is encouraging to see such a traditional leader embark on this technology based kind of agriculture here. This is key in helping the country to be secure” Mr Chaikatisha said.

He therefore encouraged other traditional leaders to emulate such kind of agriculture system and to set an example to their subjects on the importance of agriculture.

Meanwhile, Mr Chaikatisha disclosed that over 80% of inputs have been delivered in Kanchibiya district.

He further said the number of farmers that have made their 400 Kwacha contributions has significantly increased  and encouraged others to quickly deposit and collect their inputs. –
