ZESCO TO SET UP PRE-SEASON CAMP IN CHIPATA

By SPORTS REPORTER

AFTER being cleared by FAZ to compete in the prestigious 2021/22 CAF Champions League, Zambian champions Zesco United will next week set up camp in Chipata to intensify preparations for the new soccer season.

Zesco United coach Mumamba Numba is delighted that the team has set up its pre-season camp away from Ndola.

Numba believes setting up camp in Chipata will help the players to regain their fitness because Chipata is ideal for players who he said will only have to focus on trainings.

“It is crucial to start our pre-season early so that everyone can develop fitness levels at the same time. Now we are focusing on conditioning the boys especially that they were away for two weeks. This schedule will become more intense once we have all the players in camp,” Numba said in an article published on the club’s website.

He confirmed that all the local players have reported for training except for Mwila Phiri.

Numba also noted that the champions are also waiting for the foreign players who are yet to report for camp despite the two-week break having elapsed.

Zesco have been issued with the Club Licensing Certificate to participate in the CAF Champions League for having complied with the Sporting, infrastructure, Administrative, Legal and Financial Criterial of CAF Club licensing regulations.

Meanwhile, Numba said newly signed Edward Lungu from Kitwe United is a talented young star who will be able to help the champions when the new season commences.

The 19-year-old winger has already joined the team’s pre-season camp.
