INDENI TO RESUME OPERATIONS – GOVT

By KETRA KALUNGA

OPERATIONS at Indeni Petroleum Refinery are expected to resume before the end of this year, the Ministry of Energy has disclosed.

It said the Ndola-based fuel processing plant shut down last December due to a lack of commingled petroleum feedstock in the country.

Despite being shut down, the refinery has been receiving some of the finished petroleum products which include fuel, said the ministry.

The ministry explained in a statement that despite being shut down, the refinery receives some of the finished petroleum products such as petrol.

Some of the imported petrol received at the refinery is being mixed with light gasoline which is then pumped to the Ndola fuel terminal for onward sales, the ministry said.

The ministry stated that the refinery meets 50 percent of the country’s petroleum needs while the other 50 percent is through the Oil Marketing Companies and the government contracted suppliers.
