JOHNSON VACCINE ROLL-OUT READY

GOVERNMENT will today roll-out the newly acquired Johnson and Johnson Covid-19 vaccines in Lusaka, Health Permanent Secretary Kennedy Malama has said.

Dr Malama said that other towns would have to wait for Government to deliver after starting with the capital city.

He said that the ministry was targeting to get over 4 million Johnsons and Johnsons vaccines before the end of the third quarter.

‘’ I can confirm that the administering of the Johnsons and Johnsons will commence tomorrow Friday July 23 for Lusaka while the other towns will have to wait a bit,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Malama said Government was committed to ensuring that Covid-19 was brought under control sooner than later and had put in place measures like recruiting health workers on short-term basis.

He said the ministry was working with a number of stakeholders who were support the recruitment of short-term health workers to respond to Covid-19.

Dr Malama said the World Bank contributed 573, CIDRZ 465, World Health Organisation 264, ZANACO 52, Catholic Medical Mission Board 15 short health workers to fight Covid-19.

He said the ministry was indebted to the organisations for the support which was providing relief to health workers who had been there for the past 16 months.

Dr Malama said in the last 24 hours 1,751 premises had been inspected and it was encouraging to note that the majority (87 per cent) were adhering, whereas 212 representing 12 per cent were served with notices while 19 representing were closed.

In the last 24 hours 1,158 new Covid-19 cases were detected out of 6,167 tests conducted giving a 19 per cent positivity. The cumulative number of confirmed cases recorded to date now stands at 189,731.

Thirty-four people have died in the last 24 hours with 32 being classified as COVID-19 deaths and two as

Covid-19 associated deaths.
