MUCHINGA CHIEFS DEFEND EARLY DISTRIBUTION OF INPUTS

By NATION REPORTER

EARLY distribution of inputs is vital in ensuring high yield and ensuring food security for the nation, chiefs in Muchinga Province have said.

The three chiefs have defended the early distribution of farming against those who want to politicise the programe.

The chiefs are taken aback by sentiments from the opposition accusing Government of using the early input distribution as a campaign tool.

Speaking when Neria’s Investments General Manager Mr Martin Chaikatisha paid a  courtesy call, Chief Nkweto, Chief Mubanga and Chief Kafwimbi, encouraged government to ignore such retrogressive sentiments but concentrate on improving the welfare of farmers.

They said Nerias Investments has all along been distributing inputs early and this should be commended and not politicised.

Chief Nkweto said the early distribution of inputs is a prerequisite for increased productivity and also helps farmers to plan adequately.

The traditional leader wondered why some people are politicising a programme aimed at improving the livelihood of peasant farmers through improved agriculture productivity.

Meanwhile Mr Chaikatisha assured the traditional leaders that the delivery of fertiliser in the province is going on very well and is at over 80 percent.

Mr Chaikatisha also observed that there is great transformation in the livelihood of the farmers because of the FISP programme.
