DEC RAIDS, SEIZES MAX CHONGU’S VEHICLES

By NATION REPORTER
The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has seized four motor vehicles belonging to former PF diehard, Maxwell Chongu, suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The seized vehicles include an unregistered Toyota Land Cruiser, a Toyota Hilux, a Mark X with registration number BBA 4238 and a Small Truck with registration number BAG 4331.
DEC public relations officer, Mathias Kamanga

said a search was conducted at the residence of Mr Chongu following a tip off from the public.
Mr Kamanga said members of the public had been bringing information on suspected financial crimes particularly money laundering.

He said the Commission received a lot of reports in the past weeks, some of which had led to operations where various individuals had been searched and some properties seized.

“Among the operations conducted was a search at the residence of Maxwell Chongu where four (04) motor vehicles were seized. These include unregistered Toyota Land Cruiser and Toyota Hilux, a Mark X with registration number BBA 4238 and a Small Truck with registration number BAG 4331 investigation in this matter continues,” said Mr Kamanga in statement.

He said the Commission had a systematic and robust verification process of all pieces of information received from different sources and that this included seizure of assets that were reasonably suspected to be connected to the allegations.

Mr Kamanga said the seizure was followed by further verification which may result in DEC either returning the property to the owner or taking further action as guided by the Law.
He appealed to members of the public with authentic and verifiable information to report such matters for investigations.

“These reports must be void of emotions and vindictiveness and must not be a witch hunt. You can contact us on 0955 684 343 or 0211 255 114,” Mr Kamanga said.
