National Albinism Initiative Networking of Zambia prods Hichilema Administration to produce an Albinism Friendly 2022 budget

SOCIAL discrimination and Cultural myths have continued to be the major factors faced by Albinos in Zambia, with limited funding from NGO’s and successive Government’s, laments National Albinism Initiative Networking of Zambia (NAINZ) Executive Director Miracle Phiri.

Mr. Phiri regreted the continued blacklisting of Albinos in society, and lack of unemployment due to their collective skin condition will continue.

Phiri noted with concern as to why Government and the Private Sectors do not employ Albinos, despite statistics indicating a 35, 000 population.

Speaking at the same briefing, Tracy Mutale outlined the major challenges that the Albino populace face.

Alluding to a three year freeze on skin care products not being distributed but sold at very exorbitant prices, Phiri called for a policy to protect Albinos from rituals killing.

NAINZ has since called on government to recognise persons with Albinism by implement a protectionist framework that will enhance mainstreamed interventions.

“NAINZ is appealing to government to include them as a 2022 national budget is being prepared,” pleaded Phiri.
