17 THOUSAND HOUSEHOLDS EARMARKED FOR NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT

Mwinilunga district nutrition coordinating committee (DNCC) will this week embark on a scaling up nutrition support enumeration exercise targeting 17,773 households.

The exercise is scheduled to be conducted in all the six chiefdoms in the district for 21 days under the Scaling up Nutrition (SUN II) phase two project.

This was disclosed during a district monthly monitoring and evaluation meeting and orientation on the kobo collect tool kit which will be used in data collection.

DNCC chairperson who is also Acting district Commissioner, Kelvin Ndandanda said the program will see enumerated households benefit from agriculture empowerment interventions, saving groups, sanitation, education and health support.

“The households will benefit from various empowerment programs being implemented by government departments,” Mr Ndandanda said.

He said the program is key in addressing the problem of malnutrition and stunting in the area in addition to poverty alleviation among households.

Mr Ndandanda called for resilience and strategic approach to the exercise if  targets are to be met, considering the short time frame  in which it has to be done and the challenge in accessing some parts of the district.

“With team work and concerted efforts, this activity is doable within the given time frame,” he said.

Mr Ndandanda also implored officers to support the new government’s policy directions and heed President Hakainde Hichilema’s call for professionalism further assuring them of protection against any form of victimization.
