The Local Authority in Mufulira District working with the ruling UPND Copperbelt youth leadership have removed party cadres from all markets in the mining town.
This was after reports that some political cadres where still running markets and bus stations in Mufulira.
UPND Copperbelt Youth Chairperson Daniel Kemanga says the youths on the Copperbelt want to ensure the pronouncements by President Hakainde Hichilema are implemented immediately.
Mr. Kemanga who was accompanied by other provincial executive members says markets are public places adding that acts of violence and intimidation will not be entertained.
And Mufulira Municipal Council Director of housing Winstone Kasokomona says the council is ready to take over the running of the markets and bus stations.
But the marketeers have challenged the council to run the markets effectively with adequate security and sanitary services.
The UPND’s move to remove political cadres from markets and bus stations is aimed at helping local authorities maximize on revenue collection.-ZNBC
