REFORMING ACC, DEC and the FIC is a step in the right direction, former Vice President Enock Kavindele has said.
Mr Kavindele said reforming investigative wings would bring sanity in the country.
Earlier, Rainbow Party Secretary-General Wynter Kabimba warned that ACC, DEC and the FIC are dangerous institutions which have brought down governments because of their partisan nature.
Mr Kabimba said the investigative agencies vilify individuals associated with an outgoing government to please a new regime.
Meanwhile, President Hakainde Hichilema said investigative wings would be reformed so that they could perform efficiently.
President Hichilema said yesterday during the official opening of the 1st session of the 13th National Assembly that legal reforms to make investigative wings more responsive were coming.
Mr Kavindele welcomed the move saying that it was a step in the right direction.
He said that the move by the UPND government to wage war on corruption and not spare anyone should commended.
Mr Kavindele said that people who were engaged in corrupt practices should be made to account for their deeds so that they pay back to the Zambian people.
President Hichilema said the UPND administration abhors corruption.
Mr Hichilema said the new government has a zero-tolerance policy on corruption in all its forms and that it will wage war on corruption and not spare any expense to ensure that perpetrators are made to account for their impropriety.
He said to enhance transparency and accountability in the national affairs, government will review the policy and legal framework for oversight institutions to enable them to effectively fight corruption and economic crimes.
Mr Hichilema also explained that Government will increase funding and enhance operational independence of oversight institutions.
“Further, we will introduce specialised fast-track stolen assets recovery mechanisms and courts for corruption and economic crimes.
“We will also enact legislation on ethics and integrity for improved transparency and accountability,” he said.
