POLICE SHOOT ONE, NAB 2 AT KANSENSELI GOLD MINE

Police in Mwinilunga District of North Western province have shot one person and arrested two others following an incident in which over two hundred residents tried to force their way into Kasenseli Gold Mine premises.

The mob that emerged from nearby villages and forced its way into the mine premises was met by Police officers who fired rubber bullets to disperse them.
North Western province Deputy Police Commissioner Fred Mulenga said one person was shot in the foot with a rubber bullet while two have been detained following the incident.
Dr. Mulenga said the trespassers brought down the security fence in a bid to enter but that police who were manning the area managed to disperse them thereby thwarting their attempt to enter.
Police said those arrested have been charged with criminal trespass and malicious damage to property.
And Dr. MULENGA has urged those living in surrounding areas of Kasenseli Gold Mine not to engage in illegal gold mining.
