FIC CHALLENGED OVER $25M SCANDAL

BY ADRIAN MWANZA

THE Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) should come out clean on allegedly losing of US$2.5 million in a deal to install an intelligence Management System.

National Democratic Congress (NDC) president Saboi Imboela said that the FIC which had in the recent past been persecuting people needed to clear the air by clarifying the US$10 million deal with a certain contractor who was paid US$2.5 million but disappeared.

Ms Imboela said that this was an anomaly that needed to be explained by the head of the institution Mary Chirwa.

She said that the scandal had shown the institute despite persecuting others was not professional when conducting its duties as well.

Ms Imboela said that people wanted to know how they could award a tender to a company that did not even meet the criteria.

“Our question is did they follow the tender procedure for them to settle with a company that was not even reliable, that even swindled them?” she said.

She said it was unfortunate they were busy painting people that were connected to the former head of State Edgar Lungu black when they had a dirty closet as well.

Ms Imboela said a number of individuals had indicated that FIC was not trust worthy and that the recent revelation had exonerated their claims.

She said the amount was colossal and that the culprits needed to be brought to book.
