STREET KIDS WORRY YOUTH AND SPORTS MINISTER

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

MINISTER of Youth Sports and Arts Elvis Nkandu has directed the department of child development to come up with a permanent solution to address the plights of children leaving in the streets.

Mr. Nkandu said the surging number of children living in the streets requires a lasting solution despite the ministry having been implementing and facilitating the removal of children in the streets by providing skill training through a memorandum of understanding with the Zambia National Service.

The Kaputa Member of Parliament said he was concerned with the growing 13000 number of children living in the streets.

Speaking when he addressed Ministry of Sports officials, Nkandu challenged ministry of sports officials to work hard and orient themselves with the UPND manifesto.

Mr. Nkandu said orienting with the UPND party manifesto will enable the ministry to achieve all commitments made to the people of Zambia especially the area of youth empowerment, job creation, employment in sports and youths.

The Kaputa MP said there is need for a change in work culture among employees at the ministry noting that the new government will not tolerate the concept of work as usual because the work culture has to change for the better.

Mr Nkandu said the output of the ministry should be results based to meet the expectations of the people.

“I urge all directors and heads of departments to perform towards the vision 2030 and to be professional in the way we conduct ourselves in executing our duties,” Mr. Nkandu said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nkandu has challenged the head of procurement at his ministry not to entertain corrupt activities, to prudently utilize the minimal resources available to the benefit of the people.
