SABOI SEEKS TO BLOCK ‘MASQUERADING’ AKAFUMBA FACTION

By GRACE CHAILE LESOETSA

THE Saboi Imboela led National Democratic Congress (NDC) faction has sued Josephs Akafumba and eight others in the Lusaka High Court seeking an injunction stopping them from masquerading as party members.

Mr Charles Kabwita, suing in his capacity as Secretary General of the Imboela faction, wants a declaration that Mr Akafumba, Ms Bridget Atanga and others were expelled from NDC in line with the party’s constitution.

Mr Akafumba is President of the other NDC group which is in an alliance with the ruling UPND.

According to a statement of claim filed yesterday, Mr Kabwita stated that the nine were suspended at the national general council meeting held on February 27 this year for misconduct and breach of party constitution.

He stated that the committee later recommended for the expulsion of Mr Akafumba and his co-defendants.

“Pursuant to the constitution, the NDC adopted the recommendations of the disciplinary committee and expelled the defendants from the party,” he stated.

He stated that a convention was held in Luanshya on April 19, this year where Mr Chishimba Kambwili who rejoined the Patriotic Front was elected party president while Ms Imboela became vice-president and himself as Secretary General.

Mr Kabwita alleged that Mr Akafumba and his cohorts had caused confusion in the party as they hold many meetings in the name of NDC despite being expelled.
