AUGUST ELECTORAL VIOLENCE UNPRECEDENTED, PARLEY TOLD

By OLIVER SAMBOKO

NEVER in history has the country ever experienced political violence like the case was in the last general election where people were kidnapped and killed, says Matero Member of Parliament Miles Sampa.

Speaking in his maiden speech to parliament yesterday, Mr Sampa narrated that he was stabled on the back during his campaign and only to wake up in the intensive care unit at the University Teaching Hospital.

Mr Sampa also said he learnt with shock the killing of his friend, late PF North-Western Province chairperson Jackson Kungo on polling day.

Mr. Kungo, 39, was brutally killed at Kyawama Polling Station on August 12, by people who suspected him of being in possession of pre-marked ballot papers.

Mr Sampa said his hope and that of the many peace loving Zambians is that what happened in the last election should never occur again.

“My hope is that I should be the last one to come to parliament with wounds from political violence,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Sampa reminded the new dawn government to honour its campaign promises, especially on free education and creation of jobs for youths.

He said he and many Zambians will continue reminding the new government on its promises because that was the platform on which it was elected.

Mr Sampa called on the new government to prioritise the rehabilitation of the Twikatane- Zingalume Road, which he likened to the infamous bottom road in the Gwembe Valley in Southern Province.

He also bemoaned lack of clean piped water in his constituency.
