OVER 100 pupils at Grandview Academy in Lusaka have tested positive for coronavirus leading to temporary suspension of learning while part of the school has been turned into an isolation centre.

A Daily Nation crew that visited the school, found the premises closed off to the public with police in plain clothes guarding the area while a guard kept visitors from entering.

Parents who thronged the school were also not allowed to enter but given opportunity to speak to the authorities and their children on phone only.

An attempt to enter the premises to talk to authorities was rebuffed by the guard who asked the crew to instead phone the headmaster.

When contacted, the headmaster referred the crew to the Zambia Police Thrift Cooperative who own the school and could not comment.

Parents, teachers and pupils went into panic when word went round about the 100 pupils who had tested positive for coronavirus.

According to one of the parents whose child is a pupil at the school, the school has suspended learning after over 100 pupils tested positive for the pandemic last Friday.

“Over a 100 pupils have tested positive, and the school authorities are still adamant to take action.

“They have just moved the rest of the pupils to classrooms, the dorms are now isolation centres. You can actually go there and confirm for yourself,” the source said.

The source however did not specify when the tests were conducted but said the school, “has since suspended learning, with no-one allowed in or out.”

The source also revealed that tests were still ongoing as they were trying to ascertain the number of students that have contracted Covid-19.
