Dear Editor, FIRST and foremost, it is extremely disappointing to have a Member of Parliament or any leader blaming the government and the President for lack of development in their area more especially if such an individual is coming from the ruling party.
One would expect that Patriotic Front Members of Parliament, Councillors and so on would have it easy to access Government resources compared to their colleagues from the opposition, so people will actually expect a better performance in an area which is under a member of the ruling party.
If anything, one has an alternative of engaging other stakeholders such as the business sector and partner with them for projects in their area other than depending on Government coffers. We all know that no successful Government can solve all the problems that this country is facing and that is why even the state itself has partners/stakeholders who are funding some projects here and there.
So it is very worrying having an MP for example, who is saying the reason their constituency has not developed is because the President has not provided resources. That is a lame excuse and in my view, that is de-campaigning your own President and in short, you are a failure by your own words.
Question we should be asking ourselves as Zambians is that how come some constituencies are more developed while others have remained the same despite having MPs who have even served more than twice? Well, I will leave that for you to answer and at the same time, I will advise you to critically scrutinise the people you voted for so that you do not make the same mistake come August 12, 2021.
The President does not work alone and that is why he has MPs, councillors, mayors etc and these are people who should be speaking for the President to the people because he cannot be in all places. So if the President loses the elections, it means the people surrounding him have not done their job.
Some MPs have simply lost popularity and if they love their party, they should not re-contest but should step aside for others who will have a huge responsibility of convincing the electorates as to why they should vote for them when their colleague from the same party has failed to deliver as expected.
