THE Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) says while voluntary compliance of remitting tax is encouraged the authority is open to constructive ideas towards enhancing revenue collection.

ZRA commissioner domestic taxes, Moses Shuko said the authority had embarked on tax payer obligation and proposals from various sectors.

Mr. Shuko said this in a speech by director, indirect taxes, George Mwale during a workshop for the Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors in Lusaka yesterday.

He said ZRA was at the moment undertaking initiatives aimed at improving service delivery to all sectors of business.

“I am glad to officiate at this workshop which will discuss among other issues the 2018 budget changes, various initiatives that ZRA has embarked on, payers tax’ obligations and proposals from the sector,” he said.

He remained optimistic that the workshop would address tax related issues that were affecting contractors in Zambia.

Mr. Shuko said the workshop was a step towards the formation of strong partnerships with their clients.

“With such interventions ZRA will be able to deliver the much-needed revenue into the Treasury for social and economic development while satisfying the service needs of all the clients,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the recommendations from the workshop would help the authority improve service delivery.

And ABCEC honourary secretary, Paul Golson thanked ZRA for enabling contractors a chance to meet and discuss taxation matters in the construction industry. He said the knowledge the contractors acquired would help the contractors gain advantage in the sector.

“Construction is an inconsistent business and contractors are likely to compete with each at every level to gain advantage in an ever complicated industry.

“We believe that this was one area where contractors should try and formulate the best possible measures to ensure that their businesses run smoothly and that fair and equitable taxes are paid in easy and understandable terms.
