Concerned parents have questioned the decision by School Management at Lusaka’s St Mary’s, not to allow pupils attend class unless they produce K10, 000 project fee.

The pegging of the project fee at K10,000 has shocked many parents who feel the move amounted to exploitation.

The parents have asked government to intervene to stop schools from exploiting parents and guardians in such a blatant manner.

The K10, 000 is meant for a building project and must be paid by all pupils at the school even if they have paid school fees, or they will not be allowed in class.

But this situation has angered parents who have questioned the importance of the project fee above the tuition fees.

The parents are concerned that their children are not allowed into class even if they have paid school fees, if the K10, 000 project fee is not paid.

And when contacted for a comment on the matter, Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) told Millennium Radio that the matter is currently being discussed between the school management and the Ministry of General Education.

A reliable source within ZCCB says the conference will not comment on the matter immediately until the discussions are concluded.

And Ministry of General Education Permanent Secretary Henry Tukombe was not immediately available to comment on the matter as his mobile phone went answered.
