86 HEALTH POSTS TO BE COMPLETED – MINISTER

By OLIVER SAMBOKO

ALL the remaining 87 Health posts under the US$55.9 concessional loan from the Indian government will be completed once the line of credit is reopened, Health Minister Sylvia Masebo has said.

Ms Masebo, who could not give a time frame when the credit line will open, said she was optimistic that soon the funds will be made available for the completion of the 87 remaining health posts. She said in Parliament that out the 650 mini Health posts that were earmarked for construction under the project, 563 have been commissioned and are operational.

Ms Masebo was answering follow-up questions from the question asked by Mwinilunga UPND Member of Parliament, Newton Samakai on how many health posts allocated to his constituency under the 650 Health Posts Project had been completed as of 31st August, 2021.

Mr Samakai also wanted to know when government will complete the remaining health posts. She said some of the health posts of the 87 still remaining will be relocated to needy areas in order to equalize the distribution of healthcare service delivery in the country.

She wondered why the previous administration in some cases allocated the Health Post to areas which already had health posts built by other partners like the Church. Ms Masebo said her government will continue corroborating and working with its partners such as the Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ) to improve the provision of health care services to the community.

Meanwhile, Dundumwezi MP Edgar Sing’ombe complained that while other areas received more health posts under the project, his constituency has received nothing. In response, Ms Masebo said the government is aware that some areas received more Health posts under the project hence the need to relocate some of them in order to cater for all area.
