NKANA’S misery continued after Power Dynamos came from behind to beat the 12-time league champions 2-1 in a tightly contested local derby played at Nkana Stadium in Wusakile.
Martin Phiri scored a brace for Danny Kabwe’s Power Dynamos to walk away with maximum three points.
With Beston Chambeshi on the touchline, after replacing Zeddy Saileti who was sacked by the club following a losing streak, Nkana started the week twelve match on a high note and could have gone ahead in the early stages of the game.
Power goalkeeper Allan Chibwe produced some fantastic saves to deny the home side from scoring.
Chibwe could however not prevent Nkana’s Shadreck Musonda from finding the back of the net with his beautifully struck shot from outside the eighteen yard to make it 1-0 in favour of the home team in the 18th minute.
Nkana could have doubled their lead 30 minutes into the first half but Jacob Ngulube’s sublime shot on target hit the crossbar.
Power Dynamos found the equalizer three minutes before half time when Martin Phiri taped in a perfectly executed pass from Fwayo Tembo to make it 1-1.
Martin Phiri again stunned the Red Devils in the first minute of second half when Nkana defenders lost focus and gifted Phiri with the ball to make it 2-1.
Nkana’s search for an equalizer was unsuccessful as Allan Chibwe’s fantastic goalkeeping skills prevented Chambeshi’s boys from finding the back of the net.
The win pushed Power to the summit of the league table with 20 points, on par with second placed Lusaka Dynamos whose date against Zesco United was postponed due to Zesco’s involvement in the CAF Confederations cup tournament.
Meanwhile Napsa Stars held Green Eagles to a 1-1 stalemate in a week 12 fixture played at Independence stadium in Choma.
Progress Kalenga had given Eagles the lead in the 22nd minute. Eagles could have doubled their lead 10 minutes before halftime after they were rewarded with a penalty.
Greenwell Witika stepped up to take the penalty but failed to convert as his shot went over the bar.
Alex Mwamba scored the equalizer for Napsa three minutes in to the second half for the two teams to share the points.
The stalemate pushed Napsa to 19 points while Eagles moved to 12 points.
At Shinde Stadium in Mufulira, Wanderers recorded their second win of the season after humbling Red Arrows 2-1 while Nakambala Leopards and Buildcon were involved in a barren draw.
