INVESTIGATIVE wings should take charge and expedite probes into the source of fake news purported to have been coming from State House because there is high suspicion the cartel is at play, says 3rd Liberation Movement (3rd LM) president Enock Tonga.

State House spokesperson, Amos Chanda had recently written Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja to team up with ZICTA and investigate the source of a series of forged statements attributed to his office.

Mr Tonga said the investigative wings should take charge and expedite investigations into the fake statements if at all they had been instituted.

He reiterated that there was high suspicion that the forged statements were the work of the cartel trying to cause confusion.

Mr Tonga observed that the cartel was at play and that there was need to fish out members of the cartel from the system.

He warned that the fake statements being circulated had the potential to cause panic as State House was considered to be an institution of final resort.

Mr Tonga charged that investigative wings should take Mr Chanda’s plea seriously and immediately institute investigations if they had not done so.

“We don’t even know whether investigative wings have instituted a probe into the fake news purported to have been coming State House despite being asked to. If they have, then we urge them to expedite the process because we strongly suspect the cartel is at play,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Tonga threatened to intensify calls for a shake up among men and women in uniform if the call for a probe would not be taken seriously.

He said that sentiments that certain government institutions had been infiltrated by the cartel should not be ignored by the authorities.

Mr Tonga pointed out that there was a laisser-faire attitude towards work in certain government institutions because they had been infiltrated.

He reiterated that it was no secret that some unscrupulous individuals within the system were working with the cartel.
