Emulate Tutu’s selflessness, clergy urged

By ADRIAN MWANZA
THE clergy should emulate the late Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu whose selflessness helped South Africa become a rainbow nation which healed from the shackles of apartheid, Chikondi Foundation executive director Bishop John Mambo has said.
Bishop Mambo said that the death of Archbishop Tutu was a loss to the universe because he used the church to unite people.
He said Archbishop Tutu was a natural born leader who did not shield any wrong doing as he castigated the ANC when they strayed in their activities.
He said most clergy were Judas Iscariots who needed to ask for forgiveness from God for their pretentious ways.
Bishop Mambo said that most of them were just after Silver and Gold and only were interested in their own benefits.
“Most of us misrepresent God because of the love of Silver and Gold because most of them are given diplomatic passports and they keep quite but Tutu was not like that,’’ he said.
He said in Zambia the church was not coming out strong on various issues just because they had been given an inducement or gratification.
Bishop Mambo said that the late cleric put his life on the line to ensure that the people of South Africa were liberated from apartheid rule.
“He once threatened to pray that people did not vote for the ANC, now that is leadership because he was putting his life on the line,” he said.
He said Zambian clergy men needed to be the voices of the voiceless by putting their interests first rather than theirs.
