ROAD projects that had stalled in Eastern Province will be completed by March, minister Makebi Zulu has said.

Mr Zulu said road projects that were delayed in the province would be completed by March as government was in a hurry to improve the road infrastructure in the area.

Mr Zulu said key roads such as the Chipata Mfuwe road would soon be completed.

“Works on the Chipata-Chadiza road, Chipata-Vubwi road and Katete-Chadiza road will soon be completed,” he said.

Mr Zulu said a good road network in the province was a vital tool to spur economic development in the province.

He said roads enabled the country’s transportation sector to contribute towards the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Mr Zulu said the province prioritised a good road network because it was critical to the country’s development in social integration as well as its security needs.

He said the roads which were scheduled for completion were all important to the province and the development was key.

Mr Zulu said a good and reliable transport network remained important as there was a very strong positive correlation between a country’s economic development and the quality of its road network.

“The socio-economic development and subsequent economic growth of any nation is strongly linked to its transport infrastructure. Lack of adequate transport systems is one of the major factors hampering development in Zambia and as a province we will ensure that roads are worked on,”he said.
