SCORES of members of the football fraternity yesterday thronged Lusaka’s Memorial Park to pay their last respects to one of Zambia’s accomplished football Administrator and former Football Association of Zambia general secretary George Kasengele.
And Soccer icon Kalusha Bwalya said nothing would be more befitting as a tribute to Kasengele, than for Zambian Football to unite, work hard and work together to achieve greatness once more.
Kasengele died in the early hours of Friday at the University Hospital where was admitted after a short illness .
His funeral service brought scores of soccer fans , soccer administrators serving and retired as well as some other prominent personalities together.
Speaking on behalf of FAZ, Lusaka Province Chairman Jordan Maliti described Kasengele as someone who oozed Knowledge that everyone benefited from.
And in paying tribute to Kasengele , Kalusha said the late kasengele played a big role in the needs Assessment and the vision for Zambian football in 2004, which eventually contributed immensely to the success they achieved in Gabon in 2012, 8 years later.
Kalusha added that Kasengele was instrumental when the opportunity arose for Zambia to host the CAF U20 AFCON in 2017, as he believed in Zambia’s ability to host and was instrumental in securing it as the letters and proposals originated from his office.
The Soccer Icon added that his former general Secretary was a shining star of football administration and was admired across the continent and made Zambia proud as a CAF administration instructor.
‘’ A real warrior of a man, an achiever who never settled for less. Even as we bid farewell today, I am glad that you have left, having achieved one of the greatest benchmarks of African Football, the Africa cup of Nations in 2012 with Chipolopolo. ,’’ Kalusha added .
The Former FAZ general Secretary is survived by his wife Iris ,four children, two grandchildren and was laid to rest at Leopards Hill Memorial Park in Lusaka .
