MORE than K700,000 is to be spent on the construction of a maternity ward at Lulamba health post in Chingola district of the Copperbelt Province.

Chingola Member of Parliament (MP) Mathew Nkhuwa said the maternity ward at Lulamba clinic was one of the many development projects that he had embarked on to fulfil his campaign promises.

Speaking at the weekend when he laid a foundation stone for the construction of the maternity ward, Mr Nkhuwa said he was expecting the maternity ward to be completed in the next two to three months. “During the campaigns, the people of Lulamba came up with a number of things which you wanted me to work on once elected as MP. The maternity ward was one of the things you wanted and so this is why I thought I should come and lay a foundation stone for the construction works. “I expect the maternity ward to be completed in the next two to three months. More than K700,000 will be spent on this project,” he said.

He said the construction of the clinic has been made possible by his business colleagues who came up with a team called Constituency Development Trust (CDT) to support him fulfil his campaign promises. He said the team was not receiving money from well-wishers but material support which would go a long way to help put up various infrastructure. “So with the support from my colleagues in the trust and the people in my constituency, I am sure that I will fulfil most of my campaign promises,” he said. Mr Nkhuwa said once completed, he would talk to his colleagues at the Ministry of Health so that the maternity ward was operating 24 hours a day. And Mr Nkhuwa also officially opened the newly constructed ablution block at Mwaisenui market and urged the marketeers to guard the infrastructure jealously.
