LEADERSHIP MOVEMENT DECRIES BAN ON MINERAL DUMPSITE OPS

By SANFROSSA MANYINDA
THE Leadership Movement has appealed to government to avoid confusion in the mining sector but provide leadership and engage the locals.
The party’s media director, Mr Tatila Tatila, said suspending mining activities on the dumpsites was not the solution that could benefit small-scale miners.
Mr Tatila said the country’s mining sector needed policies that would support small-scale miners on the dumpsites and not the other way round.
He said in an interview that the need to support small-scale mining could not be over-emphasised as mining was key to job creation.

“As a country, we need policies that favour our local people at all times. Many people especially on the Copperbelt depend on the dumpsites as the government cannot provide all of them with jobs,” he said.
Mr Tatila also called on the Zambia Police to stop intimidating locals found near the dump sites.
Recently, Mines and Minerals Development, Paul Kabuswe, announced the suspension of mining activities on the dumpsites across the Copperbelt.
