THE Zambia Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers (ZUFIAW) has called on parliamentarians to support the proposed amendment to the Public Finance Management Bill.

The amendment bill seeks to give powers to security wings to take legal action against individuals who are cited for mismanagement of public funds.

ZUFIAW General Secretary Chingati Msiska said Members of Parliament should support the proposed bill as it would bring sanity in the use of public resources.

Mr Msiska told the Daily Nation that a law that compelled security wings to investigate the misappropriations of public funds was long overdue.

Mr Msiska said there was need for the bill to be enacted as discipline and responsibility needed to be imparted in those who handled public resources.

“The bill is very welcome because we want perpetrator’s to be prosecuted.

It is worrying that little is done to deal with culprits cited in the Auditor General’s report,” he said.

He said Zambians had lost a lot of revenue due to lack of follow ups on those who were found to be wanting.

Mr Msiska added that the bill would promote proper resource use especially among controlling officers.
