Food insecurity a risk to national security – Kampyongo

By NATION REPORTER

STEPHEN Kampyongo has warned that the country’s food insecurity has the potential to compromise its security and cause instability because the two often work in tandem.

Mr Kampyongo, the Opposition Chief Whip says the UPND has compromised the country’s security by failing to make the country food secure because of their unbridled desire to sell the more than 1.5 million metric tonnes of the grain they had inherited from the Patriotic Front (PF) government.

Mr Kampyongo, who is also former Minister of Home Affairs said despite the current government importing adequate maize after exporting more than 1.5 million metric tonnes, Zambians are hungry.

He said Government’s decision to import maize was a serious blow to Zambians as they would be forced to buy the commodity at a higher price.
